About the Anbernic RG556
The Anbernic RG556 is the one that put a proper 1080p AMOLED screen on a mid-range Anbernic, and that screen is still the reason to want it: a 5.48-inch panel with deep blacks and punchy colour that makes everything from Game Boy to GameCube look lovely. Underneath sits the Unisoc T820 with 8GB of RAM, Hall-effect sticks that will not drift, a cooling fan and a big 5500mAh battery.
On performance it comfortably covers everything up to GameCube and Saturn, with N64, Dreamcast and PSP running well, while PS2 is playable on lighter games rather than across the board. The honest caveats: the body is plastic rather than metal, the screen is 60Hz, and newer Dimensity handhelds now push past it for a bit more money. But as a comfortable, big-screen AMOLED all-rounder at a mid-range price, it has aged into one of the safer buys in the class.
